January 1999 The St. Maarten Voice wins the CHA Regional Award for outstanding communications at the Caribbean Leadership Conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
The SHTA facilitated environmental audits for various member resorts to qualify for the internationally accredited ISO14001 Green Globe certification standards. The SHTA also obtained a grant from the MINA (Milieu Fonds Nederlandse Antillen) for a pilot Ecoroom project in St. Maarten. 1999
