Aqua Mania Adventures will be hosting the 7th annual Pink Sunset Sail to support local foundations to generate breast cancer awareness. This popular event will kick off Breast Cancer Awareness month on Saturday October 1st. Part of the proceeds is to go to the Elektralytes and Positive Foundation towards their efforts to generate awareness with regards to breast cancer and motivate women and men to get checked.
“Far too many victims of breast cancer, not all of them battling the disease, but the many children, husbands, friends, and family endure the hardships and aftermaths of treatment. We want to focus on early detection and self-awareness – being breast-aware: feel it, find it, fight it – and making that call to action to get checked!” said Elektralyets Foundation President Mercedes “Elektra” van der Waals-Wyatt.
The Pink Sunset Sail is becoming more popular each year, among locals and visitors. The large sailing catamarans owned by Aqua Mania Adventures, Tango and Lambada, will take guests on a 90-minute coastal sail into the sunset. During the sail a raffle will take place to raise additional funds for the cause. Prior to the Pink Sunset Sail a Pink Mixer is hosted to welcome all guests to the event, which includes welcome drinks and hors d’oeuvres by Avantika, ILTT and La Patrona.
“7 years ago, the purpose of the Pink Sunset Sail was to support breast cancer awareness, and while the main objective hasn’t changed, the event has grown and includes additional activities for the guests to enjoy. It has become a full experience with music, drinks, snacks and of course that beautiful coastal sail. We are proud to have the ongoing support from the local community and businesses who allow us to grow this event each year. Businesses have donated fantastic prizes for the raffle, and the Pink Mixer can only happen because of the support from sponsors.” Stated Organizer of the Pink Sunset Sail, Michele Korteweg.
Last year’s event raised $4,000 for the Elektralyets and Positive Foundations. The Pink Sunset Sail is raising funds through ticket sales and a raffle for which people can purchase tickets on the boats during the sunset sail. During the month of October, the Positive Foundation along with its partners including the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC), the medical practitioners on St. Maarten, the American University of the Caribbean (AUC) School of Medicine, Collective Prevention Services (CPS), the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labor VSA and sponsors will provide free screening opportunities, 100 free mammograms for uninsured persons, free breast self-examination workshops, in-person presentations on breast cancer awareness and free educational literature at the various events.
“These are just some of the ways the Positive Foundation plans to educate our community on the importance of early detection, risk factors and the symptoms and signs of breast cancer. We are very grateful that businesses like Aqua Mania Adventures are on board to assist us with our cause,” said Positive Foundation President Shelly Alphonso.
The raffle is a highlight of the Pink Sunset Sail as people have a chance to win spectacular prizes such as weekend stays at the Simpson Bay Resort, Belair Beach Hotel and Mary’s Boon, vouchers for Pineapple Pete’s, Captain D’s, Dinghy Dock, Buccaneer’s Beach Bar, Zeebest Bakeshop, Domino’s Pizza, Napa, Amsterdam Cheese & Liquor Store, Zhaveri Jewelers, Rhino Riders, and The Scuba Shop, with many others still to be confirmed. Tickets can be purchased on board of the boats and add to the funds raised during this evening.
Organizers included an additional fun prize for the “Best Dressed Guest” with the winner getting a free ticket to next year’s event, asking guests to bring out the pink wigs, glitter hats and go all out blinging up the special t-shirt for this event.
Tickets are on for sale at US $50 per person, which includes a unique Pink T-shirt, an open bar, snacks and a wonderful sail along St. Maarten’s golden coastline, sightseeing, sipping cocktails and watching the green flash. If you haven’t booked your tickets yet, please do so online or at any of the Aqua Mania Adventures locations at the Simpson Bay Resort, Divi Little Bay, and Royal Palm.
