Accommodations

Employee of the Year: Maximum 5 nominees.

The Employee of the Year exhibits commitment to quality service, works efficiently, and displays exemplary service skills.  He/she has received numerous positive comments throughout their employment and is an apparent asset to the department.  He/she takes initiative and carries out additional responsibilities beyond regular job assignments, displaying exceptional punctuality and dependability.  He/she portrays an excellent attitude towards work responsibilities, co-workers, and customers.

Supervisor of the Year: Maximum 3 nominees.

This award is given to a role model who has shown outstanding leadership skills, diplomacy, and is an inspiration to his subordinates and peers alike. He/she is an excellent communicator, conveys goals and expectations clearly and effectively. He/she also has excellent organizational and social skills. He/she encourages team work, shows concern for the staff, and continuously has the best interest for the department/division at heart.

Department Manager of the Year: Maximum 3 nominees.

This award recognizes department managers who have shown outstanding management and commitment. The award is given to the individual displaying leadership and communications skills that exceed expectations. He/she encourages professional growth and initiates and implements ideas for good team building. While being innovative and creative, he/she has excellent work ethic and exhibits accountability for his/her actions and those of the department/division.

Timeshare

Outstanding performance in Sales: Maximum 4 nominees.

An exceptional timeshare sales person is an individual that has achieved record sales in the past 12-18 months. He/she is a strong communicator and persuader with good selling and negotiating skills.  He/she has gone above and beyond the call of duty to secure business, while still ensuring that all company policies & procedures are adhered to. The Sales Person of the Year is ambitious, ethical, and result-driven.

Restaurants and Bars

He/she is productive, exhibits commitment to quality in carrying out job responsibilities and is an asset to the establishment. He/she has received numerous positive customer comments and displays exemplary service skills. He/she takes initiative and carries out additional responsibilities beyond standard job assignments. He/she also displays exceptional punctuality and dependability. He/she portrays an excellent attitude toward work responsibilities, co-workers, and customers which serves as a role model for others.

Supervisor of the Year: Maximum 3 nominees.

This award is given to a role model who has shown outstanding leadership skills and is an inspiration to his/her subordinates and peers alike. He/she is an excellent communicator and delegates tasks ensuring that the food and beverage establishment runs efficiently on a daily basis. He/she encourages professional growth and ensures the patrons receive top service. He/she has excellent work ethic and exhibits optimal multitasking skills.

Restaurateur of the Year: Maximum 3 nominees.

This award recognizes restaurateurs who have shown commitment to St. Maarten’s tourism industry through outstanding management and creativity through their food and beverage establishments.  He/she added value by introducing innovative products, executing top customer service, excellent marketing, performance and leadership. He/she must demonstrate exemplary standards of excellence and serve as an inspiration to other food professionals.

Chef of the Year: Maximum 3 nominees.

The Chef of the Year Award is presented to a chef that exhibits exceptional creativity, culinary knowledge, and ingenuity. He/she has added their personal flair to their dishes and is known to be one of the best chefs on St. Maarten. Not only has he/she prepared well executed and appetizing dishes, but he/she has also added significance to the restaurant. He/she demonstrates passion, innovation and attention to detail and incorporates the use of local food products and techniques. The Chef of the Year also portrays commitment to quality, is an exceptional team player and motivates his staff to excel.

Bartender of the Year: Maximum 3 nominees.

This award recognizes bartenders who have shown creativity and originality in their mixing talents. He/she is passionate, imaginative, and inventive. He/she is knowledgeable about drinks and is able to connect with customers to serve the right drink of their choice. He/she is attentive, highly efficient and prepared to handle various personalities and situations. He/she is innovative and incorporates the use of local products and techniques. He/she possesses a friendly and approachable persona and acts responsibly.

Rookie of the Year: Maximum 3 nominees.

The Rookie of the Year Award is awarded to an individual who is new to the food and beverage industry who has shown outstanding performance in his/her current position during the past year. He/she demonstrates positive interactions with his/ her colleagues when facing new or difficult tasks. The Rookie of the Year brings new and fresh ideas from a different sector that adds value to his/her current department. He/she is eager to learn while also using learnt expertise to enhance daily activities.

Trade

Rookie of the Year: Maximum 3 nominees.

The Rookie of the Year Award is awarded to an individual who is new to trade industry who has shown outstanding performance in his/her current position during the past year. He/she demonstrates positive interactions with his/her colleagues when facing new or difficult tasks. The Rookie of the Year brings new and fresh ideas from a different sector that adds value to his/her current department. He/she is eager to learn while also using learnt expertise to enhance daily activities.

He/she shows concern for overall staff as well-being. He/she encourages team work, trains and coaches his staff.  The Supervisor of the Year also communicates goals and expectations clearly and has good organizational skills.

Sales person of the Year: Maximum 3 nominees.

He/she is a strong communicator and persuader with good selling and negotiating skills.  He/she portrays an excellent attitude toward work responsibilities, co-workers, and customers which serves as a role model for others.  This person has been able to improve their personal record in sales and has also boosted the company/business overall sales performance

Other

Outstanding Community Service Achievement: Maximum 3 nominees.

This award was developed to honor persons and/or organizations who have made significant contributions to their community and youth initiatives through their time, actions, talents and dedication. These contributions are outside any volunteer work done for their employer. The honoree selected should serve as a role model for compassion and service. He/she should have a passion for selflessly helping others in their community and continuously trying to improve their society.

Entertainer of the year: Maximum 3 nominees.

This Award is for the act displaying the best skills in all aspects of the entertainment field. Voter should give consideration not only to recorded performance, but also to the in-person performance, staging, public acceptance, attitude and leadership.

Best Customer service representative: Maximum 4 nominees.

This award goes out to the person that provides and delivers professional, helpful, high quality service and assistance before, during, and after the customer’s requirements are met. The Customer service representative meets the needs and desires of any customer by providing Promptness, Politeness, Professionalism and Personalization.

  • Politeness: Politeness is almost a lost art. Saying ‘hello,’ ‘good afternoon,’ ‘sir’, and ‘thank you very much’ are a part of good customer service. For any business, using good manners is appropriate whether the customer makes a purchase or not. Friendly demeanor: this is in person and on the phone. The customer service rep is the first impression customers receive regarding the company/business. Therefore, a friendly demeanor is seen as one of the best assets of a customer service rep.
  • Professionalism: All customers should be treated professionally, which means the use of competence or skill expected of the professional. Professionalism shows the customer they’re cared for.

All voting categories are open to persons working for more than one year in the current position in the current company. All nominees must be permanent residents of St. Maarten; valid identification will be asked to show for proof of residency.

Requirements (PLEASE READ)

General Requirements – Employees/Supervisors/Managers/customer service reps A permanent employee for at least one year, in the current position with the current company on September 1st, 2015

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service
  • Actively participates in community events/initiatives
  • Showcases great pride in their work, island, and industry
  • Knowledgeable about the St. Maarten hospitality industry
  • Has a clean Human Resource Record
  • Is a legal resident of the St. Maarten, with valid work permit (if required)
  • A  photocopy of a valid SXM ID or passport

General Requirements for Companies, Sole Proprietorship, Associations, Foundations and other Organizations.

  • At least one year in operation by September 1, 2015
  • Fully licensed and registered at the chamber of commerce – (Please provide a copy of COCI registration number)
  • Legally Established on St. Maarten Time-Line
  • Nomination period: Monday August 17th, 2015 to Monday September 14th, 2015
  • Awards presentation: November 20th, 2015
