The SHTA announced today that Terry Jones of Travelocity, is to be one of the keynote speakers of the Sint Maarten Innovations, Initiatives and Industries Link-up Event (SMILE).

Travelocity is one of the world’s largest travel sites. After building the digital multinational travel site, Jones became an investor in tourism start-ups.  Terry Jones has lectured worldwide about innovation and building digital relationships in business in over 25 countries and at more than 300 events. Additionally, he holds several patents. His programs on innovation, leadership and customer relationships are known to be thought provoking, entertaining and personal, providing both ideas and concrete action items on a path to implementation. 

The organizers are elated to have Mr.  Jones participate in the lineup of SMILE. His keynote on the topics of travel and innovation, is thanks to the Consulate-General of the United States based in Curacao. The SMILE organizers hope his visit will be an inspiration to St. Maarten’s recovering tourism industry, as well as, to the many entrepreneurs visiting SMILE.

Jones, will also visit various Sint Maarten educational institutions to share insights, and to answer questions on the world of tourism and digital innovation.

In addition, Waste2Work is hosting a SMILE design competition with the objective is to uncover new talent on St. Maarten and raise awareness on up cycling waste materials.  Top designs will be showcased at the St. Maarten Innovations, Industries Link-Up Event (SMILE). Prizes are to be won for the top three creative and innovative designs made out of reusable waste materials. This contest is running until October 15th as part of the build up to SMILE.

SMILE will be held at University Sint Maarten on Friday, October 25th and Saturday, October 26th.
