Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten– The Sint Maarten Yacht Club (SMYC) hosted a fantastic week-long October Sailing Camp from October 7-11, 2024, giving local kids an unforgettable experience during their school break. A total of 29 kids enjoyed five days of sailing, swimming and playing games in and around the water.

Each day was packed with fun activities, from exhilarating sailing sessions to engaging games and friendly competitions that tested their skills and sportsmanship. While sailing day trips to Mullet Bay, Friars Bay and Marigot, the kids learned the basics of sailing a Quest or a Zest. More experienced sailors sailed together with beginning sailors, learning with and from each other. After a day of sailing, the young sailors made the most of the Yacht Club’s floating docks, where they held water-based challenges and enjoyed moments of camaraderie out in Simpson Bay.

SMYC extends a heartfelt thanks to the SMYC Restaurant and Zee Best Bakeshop for providing the kids with an amazing lunch during the week. For three days, the kids were welcome at the SMYC restaurant, where they indulged in a variety of kid friendly meals. Zee Best Bakery provided the camp with delicious sandwiches that kept the children energized for their adventures during the day trips to Mullet Bay and Friars Bay. At Friars Bay the kids were generously welcomed to eat their sandwiches at sailing school Saint Martin Voile Pour Tous (SMVT).

“We’re thrilled with how much fun the kids had this week,” said Sam Peeks, SMYC’s racing coach and head instructor. “It’s always great to see them learn new skills, make friends, and enjoy the sport of sailing in such a beautiful environment.”

SMYC continues to promote sailing as a sport for youth on the island, offering camps
like this one to inspire and foster a love for the sea. For more information on future
