THE VETTING PROCESS HAS STARTED.
The vetting process is done by a committee for the specific year of the Crystal Pineapple Awards whose appointment has been sanctioned by the Board of the SHTA. This committee will in Principle set criteria for the candidates in each category and will determine which candidates fulfilled all the requirements to qualify to be accepted as nominees. 
At the end of the process those who fit the criteria the best and have all relevant documents submitted will be placed for nomination.

Requirements (PLEASE READ)

General Requirements – Employees/Managers/customer service reps A permanent employee for at least one year, in the current position with the current company on September 5, 2016

 

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service
  • Actively participates in community events/initiatives
  • Showcases great pride in their work, island, and industry
  • Knowledgeable about the St. Maarten hospitality industry
  • Has a clean Human Resource Record
  • Is a legal resident of the St. Maarten, with valid work permit (if required)
  • A  photocopy of a valid SXM ID or passport

General Requirements for Companies, Sole Proprietorship, Associations, Foundations and other Organizations.

  • At least one year in operation by September 5, 2016
  • Fully licensed and registered at the chamber of commerce – (Please provide a copy of COCI registration number)
  • Legally Established on St. Maarten Time-Line
  • Nomination period: Monday September 5th, 2016 to Friday September 30th, 2016
  • Awards presentation: November 19th, 2016
  • Please check that you have filled out all of the above fields and include a High Resolution digital photo of the nominee. •   Nomination(s) and photo(s) of the nominee(s) can be submitted via email upon completion of the form. In the event that you are unable to email, nominations forms can be delivered to the SHTA office.

Voting Results:
Please note that the final decision regarding the winner will be decided by an independent committee. The social / public vote will play a large part in the decision making and will be taken into account with regard to the final decision.

Accommodations

Employee of the Year: The Employee of the year needs to exhibit the following points:

  • They have to show commitment to quality service, work efficiently, display exemplary service skills and dedicated to fulfilling job responsibilities.
  • They have received multiple positive comments throughout their employment
  • They are an asset to the department and serve as a role model to others.
  • They take initiative and carry out additional responsibilities beyond their job assignments.
  • They are consistently dependable and punctual.
  • They display a helpful, corporative and positive attitude towards superiors, co-workers, and customers.

Manager of the Year: The Manager of the year needs to exhibit the following points:

  • They have shown outstanding managerial skills and shown commitment to continuous improvement in service.
  • They display leadership and communication skills that exceed expectations.
  • They Assist and encourage employees to improve performance and/or develop professional growth.
  • They initiate and implement ideas for good team building.
  • They are innovative and creative, have excellent work ethic, and exhibit accountability for their actions of those of the department/division.
  • They have the ability to lead/encourage a team or group in the achievement of goals and objectives, specifically to:
    • 1) Develop clear team direction;
    • 2) Manage workload and allocation of tasks;
    • 3) Assist and encourage employees to improve performance and/or develop professionally;
    • 4) Provide ongoing informal and formal feedback and Manage performance.
  • They demonstrate the ability to foster a culture of continuous improvement and commitment to achieving effective service outcomes.
  • They demonstrate leadership in providing high quality service that:
    • 1) Develops client relationships and embeds a service culture.
  • Evidence of leadership and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and occupational health.
  • They demonstrate leadership in proving development opportunities and training for staff to enhance their performance and individual goals.

Restaurants and Bars Employee of the Year: The Employee of the year needs to exhibit the following characteristics:

  • They are productive, exhibit commitment to quality in carrying out job responsibilities, and are an asset to the establishment.
  • They have received multiple positive customer comments and displays excellent service skills.
  • They take initiative and carry out additional responsibilities beyond their standard job assignments.
  • They are consistently dependable and is punctual in reporting to work. They are a role model for.
  • They portray superior attitude towards work responsibilities, co-workers, and customers.

Chef of the Year: The chef of the year has to show the following qualities:

  • They need to show exceptional creativity, culinary knowledge, and ingenuity.
  • They have added their personal flair to their dishes and is known to be one of the best chefs on St. Maarten.
  • They need to have prepared well executed and appetizing dishes and also have added significance to the restaurant.
  • They need to demonstrate passion, innovation, and attention to detail.
  • They need to incorporate the use of local food products and techniques.
  • They need to portray commitment to quality and is an exceptional team player who motivates their staff to excel.

Bartender of the Year: The bartender of the year needs to exhibit the following characteristics:

  • They need to show creativity and originality in their mixing talents.
  • They are passionate, imaginative, and inventive.
  • They are knowledgeable about drinks and are able to connect with customers to serve the right drink of their choice.
  • They are attentive, highly efficient, and prepared to handle various personalities and situations.
  • They are innovative and incorporate the use of local products and techniques.
  • They possess a friendly and approachable personal and act responsible.

Trade

Employee of the Year: The employee of the year shows the following characteristics:

  • They are productive, exhibits commitment to quality in carrying out job responsibilities, and is an asset to the establishment.
  • They received multiple positive customer comments and displays exemplary service skills.
  • They take initiative and carry out additional responsibilities above and beyond their regular job assignments.
  • They are punctual, dependable, and are a role model for others.
  • They portray an excellent attitude toward work responsibilities, co-workers, and customers.

Manager of the Year: The Manager of the year has to show the following qualities:

  • They have shown outstanding leadership skills and are an inspiration to their subordinates and peer.
  • They are an excellent communicator and communicates responsibilities efficiently to ensure successful daily operations.
  • They have shown concern for overall staff as well-being.
  • They encourage team work, and they train and coach their staff.
  • The supervisor also communicates goals and expectations clearly and has good organizational skills.
  • They have the ability to lead/encourage a team or group in the achievement of goals and objectives, specifically to:
    • 1) Develop clear team direction
    • 2) Manage workload and allocation of tasks
    • 3) Assist and encourage employees to improve performance and/or develop professionally
    • 4) Provide ongoing informal and formal feedback and Manage performance.

Other Outstanding Community Service Achievement: This award goes out to the person/or organization with the following qualities:

  • They are a person and/or organization who have made significant contributions to their community and youth initiatives through their time, actions, talents, and dedication.
  • These contributions are outside any volunteer work done for their employer.
  • The selected honoree should serve as a role model for compassion and service.
  • They have a passion for selflessly helping others in their community and continuously trying to improve their society.

Entertainer of the year: This Award is for the act, person and Dj or radio personality displaying the following qualities:

  • They are skillful in all aspects of their own entertainment field.
  • They have a strong and vibrant stage and public presence.
  • They have a positive attitude, shows leadership and has made an overall contribution to his/her trade.
  • They are continuously promoting them self whether via traditional media (radio, TV, newspaper etc.) and via social media (Facebook, twitter, YouTube etc.)

Sales person of the Year: The Sales person of the year needs the show the following qualities:

  • They need to be a strong communicator and persuader with good selling and negotiating skills.
  • They need to portray and excellent attitude towards work responsibilities, co-workers, and customers with serves as a role model for others.
  • They have been able to improve their personal record in sales and has also boosted the company/business overall sales performance.

Taxi/Tour person of the Year: This Award goes to the person who provide customer service that stands out from the crowd, keeping in mind the following criteria:

  • Drivers Knowledge of the island and Skills
  • His/her Courtesy and Helpfulness
  • Driver Vehicle and Presentation
  • Safety and Comfort
  • Service to Passengers with Special Needs

Best Customer service representative: This award goes out to the person that provides and delivers professional, helpful, high quality service and assistance before, during, and after the customer’s requirements are met. The Customer service representative meets the needs and desires of any customer by providing Promptness, Politeness,Professionalism and Personalization.

  • Politeness: Politeness is almost a lost art. Saying ‘hello,’ ‘good afternoon,’ ‘sir’, and ‘thank you very much’ are a part of good customer service. For any business, using good manners is appropriate whether the customer makes a purchase or not. Friendly demeanor: this is in person and on the phone. The customer service rep is the first impression customers receive regarding the company/business. Therefore, a friendly demeanor is seen as one of the best assets of a customer service rep.
  • Professionalism: All customers should be treated professionally, which means the use of competence or skill expected of the professional. Professionalism shows the customer they’re cared for.

Nominators should keep in mind the judging criteria and write the nomination accordingly. When asked why the nominee is deserving of the award, elaborate on your response; give specific examples; using your descriptions, draw a picture for the judges of the nominee. Attempt to reveal in words how the nominated person met each of the criteria. All voting categories are open to persons working for more than one year in the current position in the current company and must be approved by his or her supervisor (which will be verified) prior to being named as the recipient of the award. All nominees must be permanent residents of St. Maarten; valid identification will be asked to show for proof of residency.
