Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) is pleased to announce that construction has officially begun construction on its new Curbside Check-In facility. This is an important infrastructure improvement designed to add much-needed capacity, improve operational efficiency and provide passengers with a more convenient and seamless airport experience.
The project forms part of PJIA’s continued commitment to strengthening and modernizing its facilities as the airport continues to grow, responding to increasing passenger and operational demands. Once completed, the new Curbside Check-In facility will provide departing passengers with the opportunity to check in, tag their luggage before entering the terminal while creating an additional processing point outside of the main terminal check-in area.
By moving part of the check-in process curbside, PJIA will be able to increase its overall check-in capacity while reducing pressure on existing terminal facilities. The additional capacity is especially important as PJIA continues to expand, positioning itself to accommodate future growth.
Building Capacity for a Growing Airport
The introduction of Curbside Check-In is more than an added convenience for travelers. It is an important operational enhancement that will contribute to the airport’s ability to process passengers more efficiently.
The facility is expected to deliver several key benefits, including:
• Additional Airport Capacity — Expanding PJIA’s passenger-processing capabilities while supporting continued growth of the airport.
• Passenger Convenience — Allowing departing passengers to check in and tag their luggage curbside before entering the terminal.
• Improved Traffic Flow — Reducing congestion within the terminal, distributing passenger processing across additional areas.
• Faster Processing — Providing alternate check-in options that can contribute to a smoother and more efficient departure experience.
• Improved Accessibility — Offering added convenience for families, elderly passengers, travelers with luggage and persons who may benefit from easier access to check-in services.
• Enhanced Safety and Security — Reducing crowding within the terminal contributes to better passenger movement and a more organized operational environment.
• A Modern Passenger Experience — Another service designed around convenience, efficiency and the increasing expectations of today’s traveler.
Construction Underway
Construction of the new facility is now underway and is expected to take approximately three to four months to complete (subject to normal construction conditions). During the construction period, passengers and airport users may notice ongoing works in the designated area. PJIA appreciates the cooperation, patience and understanding of the traveling public and airport community while these improvements are being carried out. The airport will continue to take the necessary measures to minimize disruptions to passenger movement and ongoing airport operations throughout the construction period.
Investing in the Future of PJIA
As one of the Caribbean’s most important aviation gateways, PJIA continues to invest in infrastructure and services that strengthen our ability to serve St. Maarten, neighboring islands, visitors, residents, airline partners and the wider airport community. The Curbside Check-In project represents another step toward ensuring that the airport’s infrastructure keeps pace with the growth. By increasing capacity outside the terminal and improving the way passengers move through the departure process, PJIA is creating greater flexibility within its existing operations while preparing for future demand.
The project also reflects a broader focus on the passenger journey. From the moment travelers arrive at the airport, our goal is to provide an experience that is increasingly efficient, accessible, comfortable and convenient.
More capacity. Greater convenience. A better passenger experience. Princess Juliana International Airport is improving to better serve you.
